I'm going to satrt trying to post a word a day. If I miss one, that's because I'm busy, please don't mention it. Oh, and By theway, they'll be "fun" words

Today's word (July 26, 2009)

callimammapygian ( Cah-lee-mam-ma-pij-i-en)

What theheck could this long word mean. Well, shall we disect the roots? (I love etymology by the way!)

Calli- Think Calligraphy, Kaleidoscope, Calliope. Calli is a Greek word meaning beautiful. (Calligraphy means beautiful writing, kaliedoscope means beautiful view, calliope means beautiful voice)

Mamma- Think mammal, mammary, mama. Yes, all of them mean "breast" (Mammals produce milk, mammary means "of or relating to the breasts", and mama comes from the simple sucking sound that relates to breastfeeding.)

Pyg- This one is more obscure. It means (quoting wikipedia) "Of or relating to the buttocks".

So, that is beautiful+breasts+buttocks.

The definition (Office-style) of callimammapygian having a nice ass, and nice tits.

What a useful word.

Pygoscopia

Yes, if you see words that have the root Pyg- in them, the odds are I've gotten them from wikipedia, but dissected them on my own, thank you.

Let's dissect, shall we? As we remember from callimammapygian, pyg- means ass, basically.

Scope is like telescope, kaliedoscope (again), and microscope. Telescope means seeing far, kaliedoscope means beautiful view, and microsoipe means small seeing. So, scope- means "seeing".

Therefore, we have ass+seeing.

Well, there you have it folks- the definition of pygoscopia is: staring at someone's ass. Genius.

But, did you know, that there actually is a pygoscopophobia or the fear of someone staring at your ass. Once again, genius.

So, if someone catches you staring at their ass, and ask you what you are doing, you can say, "I was just engaging in pygoscopia."

Well, I can guarantee you that the word is Genophobia.

Let's, as always, disect:

Geno- think genesis, generate, abiogenesis, genitals (genesis = creation/origin; generate = to create or to produce; abiogenesis = not (a) life (bio) creation (genesis) or the study of how life arose from inanimate material; genitals = creators (creasing human life). So gene means to create.

Phobia- as with pygoscopophobia, it is the fear of somehing.

No, unfortunately, it is not the fear of creation. It is, drum roll please, the phobia of having sex.

Today's word is actually a place.

It is the Teton Range

This is a range of mountains in Wyoming, near Jackson hole.

Let us deconstruct this word: Teton is french for... well, what does teton sound like. Teat? Or, dare we say, tit? Da da dum- yes, Teton means breast in French.

But get this- the highest mountain in the range is the "Grand Teton" or, yes, folks, the big tit!
